all-about-the-nucleus

For a large percentage of students, learning physics is a nightmare. It is considered to be a difficult subject. Mostly it is prejudiced thoughts that make physics a tough subject to learn.  The fact is physics is one of the most interesting subjects and should never be approached with fear. It is this branch of science that helps to understand nature and its materials in a better way. It involves the study of everything in nature and its properties.

Physics is a vast subject ranging from the sub-atomic particles to the mysterious galaxies. Let us start from the atoms.

What Is Atom?

The word ‘atom’ comes from a Greek word which means ‘indivisible’.  To define it, atoms are the building blocks of any matter. Everything you see around is built of atoms. As you know matter has mass and takes up a definite space. It is the smallest element particle of the chemical element that can exist.

What Is Atomic Nucleus?

The atomic nucleus is the central part of the atom. The structure of an atom is familiar for the high school students. An atom is made up of electrons, protons, and neutrons. The protons are positively charged and neutrons are neutral in nature.

The nucleus is a dense region in the atom which is comprised of neutrons and protons. The electrons revolve around the nucleus. The nucleus was discovered by Ernest Rutherford in 1911. The force by which the protons and neutrons and bound together are called nuclear force.

What Is Nuclear Energy?

The energy released when the nuclei of the atoms get split or fuse is called as nuclear energy. The nuclear force is responsible for holding the pieces together. There are two types of nuclear reactions possible in a nucleus. It is called fission and fusion. There will be huge energy emission in both types of nuclear reactions.

Fission occurs when one nucleus splits into two or more parts. Fusion occurs when there two nuclei come together. Solar energy is a perfect example of fusion.

Introducing Nuclear Physics

Nuclear physics deals with the study of protons and neutrons.  It studies about atomic nuclei and their interactions. Atomic studies about atom as a whole, while nuclear physics is focused on the nucleus of the atom. Scientists involved in nuclear research goes in-depth into fission, fusion, nucleus breakup, forces that keep the nucleus together, merging of the nuclei and more.

To make physics learning easier, it is always good to enroll into physics tuition. It will help you to create the interest in the subject. Check out the reviews of reputed tuitions centers for A Level Physics Tuition, and enrolling into their courses would help you to get the basics of physics which will help you to a great extent in future. That is the best way to generate an interest towards the subject. When you start liking the subject, you will learn it faster
