Wow, this post was created in 2012, a time when Higgs Boson’s existence was yet to be verified. It was however, one of the most popular theory. And now it has been proven to exist!
Higgs Boson is basically the particle equivalent of the Higgs Field. The Higgs field interacts with sub-atomic particles to give rise to their masses. So electrons have small masses because their interaction with the Higgs field is not as large as others.
